Frequently Asked Questions

Please read the following answers to the commonly asked questions that we receive.

I don't think you're located near me. How can I work with you?

We are 100% online, so you don't have to live near me! You just need an internet connection, computer or phone. Our 1-on-1 and group calls are over Zoom, and our community and course are online through an app on your phone or browser on your computer.

We can help you if you live in the USA, Canada, UK, EU, AU, NZ and 180 countries that can receive supplements from iHerb. We have laboratory stores in the USA, UK, EU and NZ, but labs are not needed to get better in our program.

What do you specialize in?

We specialize in resolving chronic fatigue, ME/CFS, Long COVID and complex chronic mystery illnesses.

I have seen lots of other providers and haven't gotten better. Why is this time with you going to be different?

Read on to learn why we are different from your previous providers, and why this time is going to be different:

  1. We specialize in your specific problem. If you're not working with a specialist for your specific problem, you may never get better. Would you take your Toyota to a Nissan dealer? They may have an idea of what's going on, but there are some very specific nuances that they may never be able to fix. If you have chronic fatigue, ME/CFS, or Long Covid, you want to work with someone who has experience treating these issues. It allows you to compress time. Your local provider may be really compassionate and smart, but in order for them learn everything they need to learn to get you better, it may take them 5 or 10 years.

  2. We specialize in addressing the "root root" causes of your issues. Most providers (even functional medicine doctors) don't want to deal with heavy metals, chemicals, molds, infections (Lyme, covid, Epstein Barr, parasites, etc.), and trauma because they are complicated to treat. Unfortunately, these are what I call the "root root" causes, and addressing them is essential to resolving your issues. If you don't address them, you won't get better. This is where we shine. We have spent the last decade specializing in the resolution of these issues.

  3. We have a logical, proven process that has helped others just like you. One of the ways to be successful in life is to copy the path taken by someone who has accomplished what you are trying to achieve. For most things, there is a recipe, or series of steps, that when repeated, gives a similar output. It's the same with you health. I have found that when we (1) find the causes of your symptoms (step 1), and then (2) fix them in a particular order (steps 2-4), that people get better. It sounds simple, but the reality is that 99% of most providers don't know how to find your real root causes.

  4. We provide a lot of access to support you. We guarantee a response to your questions in 2 business days, and provide 1on1 and group calls for a touch point with one of our coaches almost weekly (depending on which program you choose.

  5. We are focused on your causes, not on the latest treatment to try. If you want to fix a problem, you have to know what the real problem is. Whether you have a problem with your car or a leaky faucet, you need to find the root cause in order permanently remove it. Any provider who is recommending a treatment that it's fixing a cause that you have is wasting your time and money.

  6. We assess for over 30 different causes of your symptoms. We have found that everyone with ME/CFS and Long Covid has a unique combination of 20 or more causes. This means that if your provider is only looking for 5 of these causes, that you're not going to get better.

  7. We don't waste your money on laboratory tests that aren't helpful. Have you spent a lot of money on lab tests? Unfortunately, too many providers are focused on figuring out your causes by test instead of based on your symptoms. It turns out that 75% of your causes can be determined by your history and symptoms alone. This means that you only have to spend your money on laboratory tests that address the other 25%. These tests will assess for heavy metals, chemicals, molds and gut infections. Other tests can be supportive, but are not needed.

  8. We have more written and video testimonials than any other fatigue specialist. If you want to know if a program is successful, ask the participants. You can see our participants here.

What is your 4 step process?

The EnergyMD Method has helped thousands of people hack time and get back to living the life they deserve to live.  Our method was created based on years of research and discovery. It is science-backed and clinically proven. It works best as a 4-step process in this order:

  1. IDENTIFY all of your causes

  2. REPLACE your deficiencies

  3. OPEN up your drainage pathways

  4. REMOVE your toxicities

Don't recreate the wheel...take my 10+ years of experience of increasing energy and take the shortcut to the finish line. It was only through increasing my own energy and helping thousands of others increase theirs that this process became clear to me.

Do you have any research to support the work you do?

Absolutely. You can view 259 references here and more specific to the Toxic 5 here (heavy metals, chemicals, molds, infections and trauma).

How do you know if you can help me?

If you haven't thoroughly addressed all the root causes (heavy metals, chemicals, mold, infections, and trauma), and if you have the brain function and ability to work through a process, then we can help you. You're either not better because you haven't found all of your causes yet, or you've found them, but haven't been able to fix them. We know that as long as we leave no stone unturned, that you will be successful. You also have to be willing and able to remove these root causes (see the next question on if you're a good fit).

Am I a good fit for your program?

You are a good fit for our programs if:

  1. You understand that healing takes time and you're willing to commit the time it takes to get better (at least 12 months).

  2. You understand that this path is going to be bumpy, but you're not going to give up and you're going to reach out for help when you need it.

  3. You're excited to walk this path with us. (We are excited to walk it with you!)

  4. You willing to focus on gratitude, possibility and optimism

  5. You're interested in personal development

  6. You're interested in natural remedies like food, vitamins, herbs, lifestyle habits and not prescriptions. (Though if you're already on prescriptions that's not a problem)

  7. You're willing and able to change your food choices (if needed) and bad habits.

  8. You're willing to trust us and our guidance. Not blind trust, but enough that you're going to implement our recommendations and see how it goes.

  9. You're willing and able to take supplements 3-5x per day

  10. You're willing and able to budget approximately $500/mo for supplements and labs

  11. You're willing and able to budget 30-60 mins per day on daily practices

  12. You're willing and able to work on your mindset and your emotional health

  13. You're open to learning about muscle testing (applied kinesiology)

  14. You really want to get better! Even if it means that you might be asked to help out with other things at home or go back to work.

  15. Your family is supportive of you and of making changes in your life. For example, they are willing to eat different foods if you need to change your diet.

Resolving your fatigue and restoring your energy requires a commitment. You, your family, and your kids are worth it! After you complete the program and you have all the energy you need to enjoy your life, you will look back on these days of exhaustion with amazement that you could ever feel so tired. You will be filled with gratitude that your body can deliver such vitality. Fixing your fatigue will change your life.

What is ME/CFS?

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) are terms often used interchangeably to describe the same condition, ME/CFS, reflecting both historical origins and symptom overlap. ME, known since the 1950s, suggests neurological symptoms possibly linked to inflammation, while CFS, coined in the U.S. in the 1980s, focuses on unexplained chronic fatigue and associated symptoms like post-exertional malaise and cognitive issues. Although diagnostic criteria vary—with ME emphasizing neurological and immune symptoms and CFS focusing more broadly on fatigue—both terms are used together in clinical settings to cover the full spectrum of the condition, acknowledging ongoing debates about their distinctions.

The important point is that their causes are the same - the Toxic 5 (heavy metals, chemicals, molds, infections, and trauma) that we address in our programs.

What is the difference between "fatigue", "chronic fatigue" and "ME/CFS"?

Fatigue is a broad term encompassing general tiredness and energy depletion that might be temporary or chronic.

Chronic Fatigue typically refers to prolonged exhaustion that isn’t relieved by rest and is not directly caused by other medical conditions.

ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is a complex chronic illness with specific symptoms including profound fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and neurological impairments.

Long Covid describes the continuation or emergence of symptoms following the initial recovery from COVID-19, including fatigue, cognitive impairments, and other physical symptoms that persist for weeks or months.

While the terms may be different, the important point is that their causes are the same - the Toxic 5 that we address in our programs.

How is your program able to address ME/CFS and Long Covid?

It turns out that the causes of these issues are all very similar and included in the 30+ different causes that we address. How your symptoms manifest depends on which causes you have and which parts of your body have been affected. We're also able to individualize your program to the causes that you have, since everyone has a different combination of causes.

How are your programs structured?

To resolve your symptoms you need the following:

  1. A personalized plan that has been created specifically for you

  2. Access to me and my team for questions that come up along the way

  3. Regular check-ins to adjust your plan

  4. Community support so that you feel less alone in your journey and the ability to learn from others

To provide you with this amazing support, we use a combination of 1-on-1 calls, group calls, an online community, and a workbook with course videos.

What does the "flow" of the program look like?

First, you purchase and then schedule your Initial visit with Evan, which will usually happen within the first month or 2 depending on our availability (spots are limited). At this appointment, you will get a plan of everything you are going to need to implement in Step 2 to replace your deficiencies.

Depending on the program that you customize moving forward, your subsequent visits with Evan and Micki are then scheduled for the rest of the program so that you're guaranteed to have the support you need.

In between appointments, you have the group calls and the online community to get your questions answered when there are "bumps" in the road. We guarantee a response to your questions within 2 business days, so you can continue to make progress. It's like having Evan in your back pocket! :)

How long will it take me to feel better?

How quickly you start feeling better depends on how many causes you're dealing with (there are usually 20+) and how severe each one is. Usually, you'll start to feel a small boost in your energy around the 3rd month when we address the deficiencies you have. For example, if your energy level is at a 4 out of 10, it might go up to a 5.

However, if your body is really weighed down by toxins (heavy metals, chemicals, molds, infections and trauma), you might not feel that initial boost. You'll likely start to feel better once we've gotten rid of a good amount of these harmful substances. This could happen around the 6th month, but is more often seen after the 9th month.

It's important to know that improvement is usually gradual and that you should expect to be in the program for at least a year to really resolve your symptoms. That's why most of our programs last 12 months. I know you want to feel better as soon as possible, and it might be frustrating to hear this, but going through the process of setting up the body for success (step 1-3) and then removing the toxins slowly, at a rate your body can tolerate (step 4), is what really works. Put in the effort now, and you'll reap the benefits for the rest of your life.

If you can accept these expectations, then you're a good fit to work with us. We do not want anyone in our programs who expects to better in 6 months.

What's the next step?

The next step is to get on a free call with us to see if we can help you and if we're a good fit to work together. You can schedule at: https://www.energymdmethod.com/schedule

What tools do you use to help me get better?

I am trained in integrative, functional, and environmental medicine. This means combining the best of conventional and natural medicine to find and resolve all of the causes of your health issues.

I have done additional trainings (essentially a PhD) in heavy metal toxicity, chemical toxicity, mold toxicity, chronic infections (viruses, Lyme, etc), and nervous system retraining.

Our tools are natural: supplements (herbs, vitamins, minerals, etc), natural therapies (sauna, coffee enemas, castor oil packs, etc) and lifestyle modification (mindset, nervous system retraining, sleep, food, movement, water).

Are labs and supplements included in the program?

No. Everyone has a different combination of causes, which means that the supplements & labs they need are going to be different.

How much should I budget for labs and supplements?

We recommend that you budget an average of $500 per month for supplements and labs. A lot of it depends on where you are in the program, the number of causes that you have, and the severity of these causes.

Do you take insurance for payment?

No, unfortunately insurance does not compensate us for the work we do.

Can I use my recent laboratory tests?

Absolutely! We will ask you what your latest laboratory test values are in your intake. If you haven't had these tests done in the last 6 months, then we will repeat them. Initial testing will be around $500.

Do I have to get laboratory tests to be successful in this program?

Fortunately, I have found that 90% of all the causes of fatigue can be determined by your symptoms. Treat these, and you will see significant improvements in your energy. However, the 10% that need to be assessed by labs are going to make you more resilient going through the program and assure that you are living in a mold free environment. These tests will be approximately $500.

Will your program work for me even if I'm not in the United States?

Yes! In addition to our store in the United States, we now have the ability to provide supplements to people in over 180 countries using iHerb. Besides the USA, we have laboratory stores in the UK, EU, and NZ. Lab tests are not required for success in our programs except for determining if mold is present in the home.

Can I take this program at the same time as seeing my local practitioner?

Absolutely! Your local practitioner (whether MD, ND, DO, ARNP or other) will have limited knowledge around how to assess for and treat fatigue appropriately, so going through our program will be a great support to you to complement what they are providing you. It is recommended that you make them aware of what you are taking throughout the program so no supplement conflicts arise. I also recommend that you take our supplements for your fatigue and they can provide other supplements for other issues that you may be working on (cholesterol, heart health, brain health, etc.).

Do I still need a primary care provider when I work with you?

Yes, it's a good idea just in case. Your primary care will provide annual exams and address any emergent issues (not related to the program). If you don't currently have one though, you don't need to run out and get one right now.

I operate as a coach in the online environment and no longer practice primary care.

What happens after I complete the program?

Once you have completed the program, if you want to continue working with us, you can renew your current program, or choose another program that we tailor to your needs.

Once you have resolved your symptoms, we can work with you to prevent heart attacks, strokes, Alzheimer's and cancer, all while staying plugged into our amazing community.

Do you help people with Long COVID?

Absolutely. It's one of the things we specialize in. We are experts at treating infections. Please see this page to watch and read the stories of real people that we've helped, many of whom had Long Covid.

Will the program also resolve some of my other diagnoses and symptoms?

Yes! Going through our process will help you resolve the following conditions, including (but are not limited to) fatigue, Myalgic Encephalitis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, POTS, Long COVID, Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Adrenal Fatigue, Lyme Disease (Borrelia, Bartonella, Babesia), Insomnia, Plantar Fasciitis, Morton's Neuroma, foot pain, Fibromyalgia, Body Pain, Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Muscle Cramps, spontaneous sweating, nocturia (waking up at night to urinate), autoimmune conditions, high blood pressure, menopause related symptoms, and hormone deficiencies.

Why don't you prescribe medications anymore? You're an MD, correct?

Yes, I am an MD, but in order to help people across state and national lines I have chosen to operate as a health coach. This allow you to get all of my functional and environmental medicine MD knowledge even when we live in different states (and countries). I also found that there is a natural option for everything and consequently I don't need to prescribe medications anymore.

Why are all of your visits online over video conferencing (zoom) and the internet?

In order to fulfill my purpose of helping 1 million people resolve their Chronic Fatigue and Long Covid worldwide, I have to be able to help people across the world over the internet. Working online, I can also work from home and be there more for my family.

When will I get access to the program once I place my order?

Immediately. As soon as you buy the program, an email is sent to you with access.

How long will I get access to the program for?

Different programs have different durations of access and support.

Can I change programs?

Absolutely. At the end of your current program, you can change to another one, just let us know by emailing to support@energymdmethod.com.

Is the program interactive and can I ask Evan questions?

Yes, you get one-on-one calls, group calls, and access to the community where Evan and his health coaches answer your questions directly within 2 business days.

Do I have to use a desktop computer to participate in the program?

No. You can use any of your devices such as a laptop, computer, iPad, Tablet or even your smartphone. Our online community and curriculum have user-friendly mobile apps.

Does this program work for children with fatigue/low energy?

Yes, the causes of fatigue are the same in children and adults. However, dosing of treatments is different. Other differences include faster shifts are usually noted in children. The only challenge that I have found is that the program does require getting feedback from the child ("how are you feeling since we started this new supplement?" etc.) so you do need to have a self-aware child who can give you that feedback. We don't generally work with children less than 15 years of age.

Your program definitely looks like it has helped lots of people, so why haven't other doctors heard of it?

Unfortunately, conventional doctors learn very little about environmental medicine in medical school, and many of the main causes of fatigue are environmental (heavy metals, chemicals, molds and infections). Natural and functional medicine doctors are great, but are usually generalists and are focused on other illnesses and are not aware of all of the causes of fatigue. I have this knowledge because I spent the last decade focused on learning about every potential cause of fatigue and how to resolve it. This is what was necessary to learn what I have learned.

Do the prices for your programs change?

Yes, they can change over time. However, once you have purchased a program, the fee wil not increase while you are still in it.

Why do you limit the number of spots you have per program?

We want to make sure that you have the best experience with us and get all the support that you need. The best way to do this is to keep our numbers low.

Why don't you treat acute/urgent issues anymore?

Since I work remotely, I cannot examine you appropriately over zoom. I have also become more specialized in my knowledge around energy, fatigue and other chronic conditions and I don't keep up on the urgent care issues. I can always make functional medicine recommendations to you when you have any issue, but I recommend that you have access to a primary care provider when you work with us for any acute and urgent issues. That said, any urgent issues that arise from your work in our program, we will be able to support.

Do you work with vegans?

Yes we do, and we don't require you to change how you're eating as long as you're making good food choices. We're not up on all of the vegan supplement replacements, so you will need to help us with that. Last, we may not be able to get your thyroid function to exactly where we want it if you're not able to take a thyroid glandular.

How do you change your protocols to work with people who have MCAS, are more sensitive to supplements, or not absorbing their supplements?

In people who are more sensitive to supplements, aren't absorbing their supplements or have MCAS, we do our best to use alternatives that can be taken topically. This bypasses the gut and decreases your chance of reaction. We also adjust dosing and frequency to allow for greater tolerance. "Start low, and go slow" is a common adage in our community. Approximately 10% of our clients have MCAS, so we have lots of experience, patience and support for you.

I know that you help people with MCAS. Why is this program not for them?

If you have MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) and are more sensitive to food and supplements, you will need more hand-holding to optimize your doses of supplements and deal with the bumps in the road. If you have MCAS, I recommend one of our other programs that provides additional support.

How would I do any blood tests if you're out of state?

We have a laboratory store in the US that will send you the tests that you need. For blood tests, you can go to your local Labcorp draw station.

We have laboratory stores in the UK, EU and NZ for functional laboratory tests. For blood tests outside of the US, we can give you a list of the labs that we recommend and you can ask your GP to order them.

I had a test for Lyme, and it said I didn't have it. Is this accurate?

Probably not. It depends on your symptoms. Unfortunately, blood and urine tests are notoriously bad at assessing for Lyme and other infections. Even the Center for Disease Control states that Lyme is a clinical diagnosis based on history and symptoms. This has been our observation as well. The Western Blot and ELISA tests are meant for epidemiologic studies and not for diagnosis.

Am I too old for your programs?

It's less about your age and more about your ability to be organized and comfortable with technology. Since all of our contact with you is online, you need to be willing to learn how to use the basics of different software platforms like zoom and our online community (which is like a Facebook group, but not on Facebook).

To be successful in our programs, you need to have enough energy and organization to show up to the calls, arrange, order and refill your supplements, and ask questions in our online platform. We have had 80-year-olds be successful in our program because they were willing and able to do these things.

Can I go at my own pace?

Absolutely. We are here to support you regardless of the time it takes. You just have to be committed to being in action and not quitting. The only people who don't get better are those who quit.

Will you stop my current supplements when I come into the program?

I will not stop any supplements that you know are currently helping you. Those that aren't helping you (or you're not sure), we will stop.

Can we have our 1-on-1 calls over phone instead of zoom?

Yes. Though this is only available if you are in the USA.

Do you use muscle testing (aka applied kinesiology) in your programs?

Yes, but only if you're interested in doing so. I can teach you how to do sway testing or pendulum testing for additional data in the moment. I was skeptical, but it has been a very helpful tool and empowering for clients.

Treating Sex Hormone Imbalances

Sex hormones are that are involved in the regulation of sexual development and reproduction. The primary sex hormones are estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Men and women have all of these, just in different amounts and ratios...

When men and women have low energy caused by an imbalance in their sex hormones, it is usually from different hormones. For men, it is usually due to a testosterone deficiency. For women, it is usually due to estrogen and/or progesterone imbalances.

Sex Hormones & Low Energy

The symptoms of menopause are no joke. They are incredibly uncomfortable and can change the quality of your life significantly. When a woman comes to me with menopausal symptoms, she is usually pretty desperate for relief. I use both natural and pharmaceutical therapies to get her that relief.

Treating Thyroid Disease

I am a big believer in natural medicine. It can be very powerful and work very well. I prefer to use it as long as the natural treatment is safe and strong. Unfortunately, when treating low thyroid, we usually need both the natural and the prescription treatments. In college, I learned from playing the card game euchre not to “send a boy to do a man’s job.” In medicine, this means using the treatment that you know will work. If I think a natural treatment will work, but I know that a medication will work, I should use the medication as long as there are no significant side effects. This is because I want to make sure you get results right away so that you can get your life back

Treating Thyroid Disease

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. The majority of people with thyroid dysfunction have hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism (“hypo” means low) is a condition where the amount of thyroid hormone in your body is less than what is needed for optimal function. According to the American Thyroid Association, more than 12 percent of the US population will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetimes, and more than half will be unaware that they have a problem. Women are five to eight times as likely as men to develop thyroid problems.

Advanced Adrenal Recommendations

Last week, I went over the recommended supplements to treat Adrenal Fatigue. This week I’ll go over adrenal recommendations as well as a plan to reduce stressors.

Treating the physical symptoms is only the first step. Once you start to feel better, it’s important to begin addressing the causes of the problem: the sources of stress that compromised your adrenals in the first place.

Testing & Supplement Options for Adrenal Fatigue

Last week we discussed the main symptoms as well as the causes of adrenal fatigue. This week, I will focus on testing and supplement options for treatment.

If you have most of the symptoms listed last week, you probably have adrenal fatigue. However, how do we test for adrenal dysfunction?

How Adrenal Fatigue Causes Chronic Fatigue

This week I will discuss how adrenal fatigue is a primary cause of chronic fatigue.

It's estimated that up to 80% of adults experience adrenal fatigue during their lifetimes, yet it remains one of the most under-diagnosed illnesses in the United States. Conventional medicine does not yet recognize adrenal fatigue as a distinct syndrome

Food Allergies & Low Energy

Food allergies can cause almost any symptom the body can manifest, including low energy. The gastrointestinal tract maintains a delicate balance of good bacteria, specialized immune cells, and various neurological and hormonal activities. In fact, 80% of your immune system resides in your gut, so anything you put in your mouth can trigger a reaction. Once your digestive system detects what it considers a “foreign particle,” your immune system reacts, and the inflammation that follows creates pain and dysfunction.

Food and Your Energy

Food is a touchy subject, especially if you’re not feeling well. We have a lot of emotional attachments to it, and it can give us joy at times when nothing else can. However, food allergies play a significant role as a cause and contributor to fatigue and, as a doctor, I have seen amazing improvements in the health of my patients when they change their food choices.
